OKX Middle East Fintech FZE, a subsidiary of the cryptocurrency exchange OKX based in Dubai, has obtained a license from the Dubai regulatory authority for virtual assets (VARA), which will be fully utilized in the next few weeks, the company announced on Tuesday. The Dubai Virtual Asset Service Provider license will allow for operations with fiat currencies and provide asset exchange services and asset pairings for institutional and qualified retail clients through the exchange and mobile application. Dubai is quickly becoming a preferred destination for many cryptocurrency experts. OKX, currently the second-largest exchange in the world by trading volume, received a preliminary VARA license in June of last year, but the recent announcement updates it to an operational level. `This allows us to provide services to UAE residents, whom we will be targeting, including asset trading and fiat currency services, which involve deposits and withdrawals in UAE Dirham (AED),` said Rifad Mahasni, OKX`s General Manager for the Middle East region in an interview. `In addition, we will offer trading pairs with the UAE Dirham, such as AED/BTC, AED/ETH, and others, which is something new that we are doing.`
